Advoco has been launched as a Social Enterprise by Merseyside Employment Law ( MEL ).
MEL is a Community Law centre operating as a registered charity and is based in Liverpool City centre. MEL has been providing specialist advice and Employment Tribunal representation to individuals since 2004. Throughout this time the management team have become increasingly aware that many of the disputes they have been asked to resolve have been avoidable. It has become clear that many small business owners have found it difficult to ensure compliance with employment law whilst dealing with the day to day running of the business. This has left many employers vulnerable to expensive disputes.
In addition to this the charitable sector is facing a radically changing economic landscape and like all charities MEL has seen a need to engage further with the business community and to demonstrate commercial awareness.
With the Public Services (Social Value) Act becoming law in January 2013 companies intending to trade with the public sector will be required to demonstrate the social value they create and to illustrate their responsible business credentials.
There has never been a better time therefore for an organisation such as Advoco to bring together the charitable and private sectors and address these challenges.
Advoco is dedicated to ensuring businesses avoid expensive disputes, comply with legislation whilst creating social value for our community.
